About this event

We warmly invite you to join us for a fun evening of dancing while participating in a research project aimed at representing tango dancing in a virtual reality environment. Entry is absolutely free. No special clothing or anything else required. Just bring yourselves, your dancing shoes and good vibes!

Getting there

Go through the main entry to Edinburgh Napier’s Merchiston Campus at 10 Colinton Road, into the quad. On the left you’ll see a ramp taking you to the entrance to the Glassroom.

About the project

Carousel (carouseldancing.org) is a large European research project aiming to increase enjoyment and to beat loneliness through dancing remotely in virtual reality, augmented reality, online etc.

In this milonga we will be recording audio and video to establish how dancers occlude the sound in the dancefloor. This will inform the creation of realistic soundscapes in future VR tango dancefloors. For part of the milonga there will be a 360-degree camera in the middle of the dancefloor and some microphones near the walls.
